Course: Business Computer Information Systems I (BEGBSIC 1) 7070

Course Description: Students implement personal and interpersonal skills to strengthen individual performance in the workplace and in society and to make a successful transition to the workforce and/or post secondary education. Students apply technical skills to address business applications of emerging technologies.

Course Description: Students learn the responsibilities of business and industry regarding ethics, environment, health, safety, and diversity in society in such a way as to prepare them for the transition into the workforce. Emphasis will be on the application of technical skills (embedding data and linking documents using word processing, spreadsheets, databases, and presentations software) through the use of popular productivity software. Workplace competencies may be added to the course content by the teacher. This course meets the requirements for ITSC 1409 (Integrated Software Applications) at the college level. Students will receive four credits.

Course Description: This course is designed to teach terminology and concepts relating to desktop publishing, including acquiring print and digital information from electronic resources by using keyboard, disk/disc, modem, scanner, sound recorder, and digital camera. The impact of desktop publishing on society is analyzed through persuasiveness, marketing, and point of view. Students will use acquired information with regard for copyright law, ethical acquisition, and correct citation of sources. Emphasis will be on correct standards relating to page design, type specifications, graphic elements, color principles, and assorted strategies for creative design in original projects, which will be evaluated for quality and effective use of desktop publishing concepts and skills.

Course Description: Through the study of technology application foundations, including technology-related terms, concepts, and data input strategies, students learn to make informed decisions about technologies and their applications. Students communicate information in different formats and to diverse audiences. Students will gather information to update the local website as well as other web projects.

Course Description: The student is expected to identify pictorial qualities in a design such as shape and form, space and depth, or pattern and texture to create visual unity and desired effects in designs; use variety of lighting techniques including shadows and shading to create an effect; define the design attributes and requirements of products created for a variety of purposes including posters, bill boards, business cards, stationery, book jackets, folders, booklets, pamphlets, brochures and magazines; and use proximity and alignment to create a visual connection with other elements.

Course Description: This course is recommended for students in grades 10-12. Students develop a foundation in the economic, financial, technological, social, and ethical aspects of business to become competent consumers, employees, and entrepreneurs. Students will learn to apply basic accounting concepts and terminology and demonstrate the effects of transactions on the accounting equation.
