The ACT and the SAT are college admissions tests required by most colleges. Most college admissions committees will evaluate your application based on your best single-session score, so don’t hesitate to send scores from multiple test days. For those of you who don’t test well, you’ll be glad to know that there are colleges that are test-optional – you may still need to take an ACT or SAT, but the score is not the critical piece of your application.

 San Saba High School is a TSIA2 testing location

 

The TSI is Texas' College Readiness Exam. Any student planning to attend a PUBLIC college in Texas (either 2-year, like ACC and Blinn, or 4-year, like Texas State or ASU) must complete the TSI exam before enrolling. Scores on this exam do not determine college admission (that's what the SAT and ACT are used for); rather, the TSIA2 is used to determine which classes a student can enroll in. All seniors are encouraged to complete the TSIA2, unless they qualify for the TSIA2 exemptions. Underclassmen planning to take dual-credit courses also need to complete the TSIA2.

TSIA2 Scores:

 

Students will receive their scores immediately upon the completion of testing. Below are the score requirements for college/dual-credit enrollment:

 

• Math 950 OR 910-949 AND Diagnostic level of 6
• ELAR 945 on multiple choice AND Writing Placement of 5 or higher OR 910-944 AND Diagnostic level of 5-6

 

 

TSIA2 Exemptions:

 

Students may be considered exempt from the TSIA2/College Ready if they meet any of the following criteria:

 

• SAT Math score of 530+ = exempt in TSI Math
• SAT Evidenced Based Reading and Writing score of 480+ = exempt in TSI ELAR
• ACT Composite score of 23 with a 19+ in Math = exempt in TSI Math
• ACT Composite score of 23 with a 19+ in English = exempt in TSI ELAR
• STAAR English 2 scores of 4000
• STAAR Algebra 1 score of 4000 (and pass Algebra II high school course)

 

Financial aid applications inform postsecondary institutions’ decisions about student eligibility for federal, state, and institutional funds. Financial aid awards can help students pay for their educational expenses after high school.

 

Each high school senior in a Texas public school district or open enrollment charter school must complete and submit a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) or a Texas Application for State Financial Aid (TASFA) as a state requirement for graduation. Texas Education Code §28.0256 allows a student to opt out of the financial aid application graduation requirement by submitting a signed form that authorizes the student to decline.

 

To authorize a student to opt out of the financial aid application graduation requirement, the Financial Aid Application Opt-Out Form must be signed by one of the following:

 

OPTION I: A student age 18 years or older or emancipated minor under Chapter 31, Texas Family Code

OPTION II: The student’s parent or guardian and the student

OPTION III: A school counselor, for good cause as determined by the school counselor, and the student

 

Students under 18 years of age may only be authorized to decline under OPTION II or OPTION III

 

 

In order to fill out the FAFSA, you will need the following items:

• Your FSA ID Number - apply on-line
• Your Parent's FSA ID Number
• Driver’s License #
• Social Security #
• Tax information or tax return that was filed last April
• Record of untaxed income such as social security or welfare benefits
• Information on savings, investments, farm & business assets
