Course Description

Accounting I is a one-year course designed to bring the real world of accounting into the classroom. Students will have the opportunity to use real-world source documents and financial statements. The objective of this course is to introduce students to the double-entry system of accounting for sole proprietorship, corporate, and partnership forms of business enterprises by using real-world applications and connections. Other important objectives include the following:

  • To help students develop personal and professional skills for school and work.
  • To help students understand the relationship between the manual system of accounting and a computerized system.
  • To help students find success in accounting.

 

Course Outline

Unit 1-Introduction to Accounting

Unit 2-The Basic Accounting Cycle

Unit 3-Accounting for a Payroll System

Unit 4-The Accounting Cycle for a Merchandising Corporation

 

 

Supplies Needed

Pencils

3 ring binder

Please bring supplies to class everyday

 

Grading

  1. Six Weeks exams will account for 15% of the grade.
  2. Tests and major projects will be weighted for 40% of the grade.
  3. Daily work will account for 45% of the final grade in any grading period.

The right is reserved for the daily (45%) and tests/projects (40%) weights to be further delineated according to individual subject and class needs. The weights of unit exams (15%) will not be delineated for any reason.

 

In this class daily work weight (45%) will be broken down according to the following values:

  1. For daily work purposes homework will be 30% of the 45% and quizzes will be 15% of the 45%.
  2. Major grades will not be delineated from the standard 40% and all major grades have equal weight.

 

Class Rules

Be responsible and ready to work everyday.

Be respectful at all times.

 

Class Procedures

Students are expected to be in their seats and ready to work when the bell rings.

Students are expected to be respectful to teachers and other students.

Late work will only be accepted one day late with 30% loss in grade.
